Clocks change on 24 April and 29 October. Prayer times on those days shift by an hour on the clock, not in the sky. How times are calculated

Al Badārī, the Sun and the clock

Al Badārī is in Asyut and has about 56,000 people. The nearest larger city is Ţahţā, 26 km to the south-southeast. Al Badārī lies 1.4° east of the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest about 6 minutes before 12:00 on average, around 11:54, and Dhuhr comes earlier than the clock suggests. In summer, when the clocks go forward an hour, that moment moves to around 12:54.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Al Badārī: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 86° above the horizon in June and only 40° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Al Badārī range from 10h 26m in December to 13h 50m in June, a difference of 3h 24m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.

Maghrib time Al Badārī compared with nearby cities

Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Al Badārī, calculated with the same method.
