Clocks change on 24 April and 29 October. Prayer times on those days shift by an hour on the clock, not in the sky. How times are calculated

Al Marāghah, the Sun and the clock

Al Marāghah is in Sohag and has about 54,000 people. The nearest larger city is Ţahţā, 13 km to the northwest. Al Marāghah lies 1.6° east of the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest about 6 minutes before 12:00 on average, around 11:54, and Dhuhr comes earlier than the clock suggests. In summer, when the clocks go forward an hour, that moment moves to around 12:54.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Al Marāghah: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 87° above the horizon in June and only 40° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Al Marāghah range from 10h 28m in December to 13h 49m in June, a difference of 3h 21m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.

Maghrib time Al Marāghah compared with nearby cities

Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Al Marāghah, calculated with the same method.
