Who runs Awqatly
Awqatly (awqatly.com) is an independent project created and run by Dr. Muhammad Awais Yousaf, Associate Professor. In these pages, "we", "us" and "Awqatly" refer to him as the operator of the site. You can reach us at awais.yousaf@iub.edu.pk.
Calculated prayer times
Prayer times on Awqatly are start times calculated from astronomy for each city's coordinates and time zone, using the method shown on each page. Different authorities use different twilight angles and rules, especially for Fajr and Isha at high latitudes, so times can differ by several minutes from a mosque's timetable. Where your local mosque or scholars publish a timetable, follow it.
Congregation (jamaat) and Jummah times
We never publish congregation, iqamah or Jummah khutbah times unless a mosque has confirmed them. These are set by each mosque; please check with the mosque directly.
Ramadan, Eid and Hijri dates
Hijri dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar. The start of Ramadan, Eid and other occasions depends on moon sighting and the decision of your local authorities; our dates are expectations only. Fasting times (sehri and iftar) are calculated from Fajr and Maghrib; many mosques add a safety margin to sehri.
Qibla direction
The qibla is calculated as the great-circle bearing to the Kaaba from true north. Phone compasses can be affected by metal, magnets and calibration, so use the bearing and the map to confirm, and follow the direction used by your local mosque.
Mosque information
Mosque names, locations and addresses come from OpenStreetMap volunteers and may be out of date. Please confirm before travelling, and report mistakes on the mosque's page.
Not religious rulings
Awqatly is a calculation tool. It does not issue religious rulings (fatwas). For questions of practice, consult a qualified scholar.
