An Nāşirīyah, the Sun and the clock

An Nāşirīyah is in Asyut and has about 22,000 people. The nearest larger city is Assiut, 3 km to the south-southwest. An Nāşirīyah lies 1.2° east of the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest about 5 minutes before 12:00 on average, around 11:55, and Dhuhr comes earlier than the clock suggests. In summer, when the clocks go forward an hour, that moment moves to around 12:55.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in An Nāşirīyah: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 86° above the horizon in June and only 39° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in An Nāşirīyah range from 10h 25m in December to 13h 51m in June, a difference of 3h 26m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
