Clocks change on 24 April and 29 October. Prayer times on those days shift by an hour on the clock, not in the sky. How times are calculated

Minya, the Sun and the clock

Minya is the main city of Minya, home to about 280,000 people. Minya lies almost on the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest close to 12:00 on the clock, around 11:57 on average. Dhuhr begins just after that moment. In summer, when the clocks go forward an hour, that moment moves to around 12:57.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Minya: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 85° above the horizon in June and only 38° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Minya range from 10h 21m in December to 13h 56m in June, a difference of 3h 35m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.

Maghrib time Minya compared with nearby cities

Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Minya, calculated with the same method.
