Clocks change on 24 April and 29 October. Prayer times on those days shift by an hour on the clock, not in the sky. How times are calculated

Aţ Ţārif, the Sun and the clock

Aţ Ţārif is in New Valley and has about 39,000 people. The nearest larger city is Luxor, 4 km to the south. Aţ Ţārif lies 2.6° east of the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest about 11 minutes before 12:00 on average, around 11:49, and Dhuhr comes earlier than the clock suggests. In summer, when the clocks go forward an hour, that moment moves to around 12:49.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Aţ Ţārif: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 88° above the horizon in June and only 41° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Aţ Ţārif range from 10h 32m in December to 13h 45m in June, a difference of 3h 13m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
