Salah times Ürgüp: calculation method and Asr

Method: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı method (Turkey). Asr: Standard.

Times follow Diyanet's official method: İmsak (Fajr) at 18°, Yatsı (Isha) at 17°, plus temkin, the fixed precaution minutes Diyanet adds (sunrise −7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7). In Turkey İmsak is when the fast begins and equals Fajr here. For the places we checked, our minutes match Diyanet's published tables or differ by one minute at most, because Diyanet may use slightly different coordinates for a town. Switch the method or the Asr school below if your mosque follows another timetable.

Ürgüp does not change its clocks; times stay on Europe/Istanbul all year. How times are calculated

Ürgüp, the Sun and the clock

Ürgüp is in Nevsehir Province and has about 17,000 people. The nearest larger city is Nevşehir, 17 km to the west. Ürgüp lies 10.1° west of the 45° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 40 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 12:40, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Ürgüp: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 75° above the horizon in June and only 28° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Ürgüp range from 9h 28m in December to 14h 52m in June, a difference of 5h 24m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them. At 1,067 m above sea level, Ürgüp sits on high ground. Times are calculated for a level horizon; from a hilltop or a tall building sunrise can come a little earlier and sunset a little later than listed, while mountains to the east or west do the opposite.

Maghrib time Ürgüp compared with nearby cities

Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Ürgüp, calculated with the same method.
