Salah times Sarıkamış: calculation method and Asr

Method: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı method (Turkey). Asr: Standard.

Times follow Diyanet's official method: İmsak (Fajr) at 18°, Yatsı (Isha) at 17°, plus temkin, the fixed precaution minutes Diyanet adds (sunrise −7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7). In Turkey İmsak is when the fast begins and equals Fajr here. For the places we checked, our minutes match Diyanet's published tables or differ by one minute at most, because Diyanet may use slightly different coordinates for a town. Switch the method or the Asr school below if your mosque follows another timetable.

Sarıkamış does not change its clocks; times stay on Europe/Istanbul all year. How times are calculated

Sarıkamış, the Sun and the clock

Sarıkamış is in Kars Province and has about 24,000 people. The nearest larger city is Kars, 52 km to the northeast. Sarıkamış lies 2.4° west of the 45° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 10 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 12:10, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Sarıkamış: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 73° above the horizon in June and only 26° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Sarıkamış range from 9h 17m in December to 15h 3m in June, a difference of 5h 46m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them. At 2,087 m above sea level, Sarıkamış sits on high ground. Times are calculated for a level horizon; from a hilltop or a tall building sunrise can come a little earlier and sunset a little later than listed, while mountains to the east or west do the opposite.

Maghrib time Sarıkamış compared with nearby cities
