Ramadan timetable for Midyat

Salah times Midyat: calculation method and Asr

Method: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı method (Turkey). Asr: Standard.

Times follow Diyanet's official method: İmsak (Fajr) at 18°, Yatsı (Isha) at 17°, plus temkin, the fixed precaution minutes Diyanet adds (sunrise −7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7). In Turkey İmsak is when the fast begins and equals Fajr here. For the places we checked, our minutes match Diyanet's published tables or differ by one minute at most, because Diyanet may use slightly different coordinates for a town. Switch the method or the Asr school below if your mosque follows another timetable.

Midyat, the Sun and the clock

Midyat is in Mardin and has about 76,000 people. The nearest larger city is Batman, 55 km to the north-northwest. Midyat lies 3.7° west of the 45° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 15 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 12:15, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Midyat: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 76° above the horizon in June and only 29° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Midyat range from 9h 35m in December to 14h 45m in June, a difference of 5h 10m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
