Ramadan timetable for IstanbulMethod: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı method (Turkey). Asr: Standard.
Times follow Diyanet's official method: İmsak (Fajr) at 18°, Yatsı (Isha) at 17°, plus temkin, the fixed precaution minutes Diyanet adds (sunrise −7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7). In Turkey İmsak is when the fast begins and equals Fajr here. For the places we checked, our minutes match Diyanet's published tables or differ by one minute at most, because Diyanet may use slightly different coordinates for a town. Switch the method or the Asr school below if your mosque follows another timetable.

Istanbul does not change its clocks; times stay on Europe/Istanbul all year. How times are calculated
Istanbul is the main city of Istanbul, home to about 16,000,000 people. Istanbul lies 16.1° west of the 45° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 64 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 13:04, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.
The Sun never stands straight overhead in Istanbul: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 72° above the horizon in June and only 26° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Istanbul range from 9h 13m in December to 15h 8m in June, a difference of 5h 55m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Istanbul, calculated with the same method.

Get Awqatly for Windows (free)Istanbul's skyline is made of mosques, and three of them tell its story. The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, known as the Blue Mosque, was begun in 1609 and completed in 1617 for Sultan Ahmed I, to the design of the architect Sedefkar Mehmed Agha, in the classical Ottoman style. It has six minarets, each 64 metres tall, a central dome with an inner diameter of 23.5 metres, four semi-domes and four smaller corner domes. Its interior is lined with 21,043 Iznik tiles of over fifty designs, mostly in blue. It stands in Sultanahmet, on the site of the old Hippodrome, across from Hagia Sophia, and it reopened for worship in April 2023 after a restoration that began in 2018.
The Süleymaniye Mosque, on the Third Hill, was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by Mimar Sinan, with an inscription giving 1550 as the foundation date and 1557 as the inauguration. Its dome is about 53 metres high and 26 metres across, and it has four minarets, the two tallest 76 metres. The mosque was the heart of a complex that included four madrasas, a public kitchen, a hospital, public baths, a caravanserai and a primary school, and behind the qibla wall are the tombs of Suleiman and his wife Hürrem Sultan. It was restored between 2007 and 2010. Hagia Sophia, built by the Byzantine emperor Justinian between 532 and 537, became a mosque after the conquest of 1453, a museum in 1935, and was reclassified as a mosque in 2020 after the Council of State annulled the decision that had created the museum.
Istanbul prayer times are published by the Diyanet, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, which uses 18 degrees for imsak (Fajr) and 17 degrees for Yatsı (Isha) plus fixed safety minutes (temkin). The city lies at 41 degrees north and Turkey has kept UTC+3 all year since 2016. On this site's calculation the fast from Fajr to Maghrib in Istanbul lasts about 17 and a half hours on 21 June and 11 hours on 21 December. The Diyanet announces the start of Ramadan and Eid for the whole country, and its tables are the official reference.
