Salah times Gönen: calculation method and Asr

Method: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı method (Turkey). Asr: Standard.

Times follow Diyanet's official method: İmsak (Fajr) at 18°, Yatsı (Isha) at 17°, plus temkin, the fixed precaution minutes Diyanet adds (sunrise −7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7). In Turkey İmsak is when the fast begins and equals Fajr here. For the places we checked, our minutes match Diyanet's published tables or differ by one minute at most, because Diyanet may use slightly different coordinates for a town. Gönen, the Sun and the clock

Gönen is in Balikesir and has about 41,000 people. The nearest larger city is Bandırma, 39 km to the northeast. Gönen lies 17.3° west of the 45° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 69 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 13:09, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Gönen: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 73° above the horizon in June and only 26° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Gönen range from 9h 19m in December to 15h 2m in June, a difference of 5h 43m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
