Salah times Devrek: calculation method and Asr

Method: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı method (Turkey). Asr: Standard.

Times follow Diyanet's official method: İmsak (Fajr) at 18°, Yatsı (Isha) at 17°, plus temkin, the fixed precaution minutes Diyanet adds (sunrise −7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7). In Turkey İmsak is when the fast begins and equals Fajr here. For the places we checked, our minutes match Diyanet's published tables or differ by one minute at most, because Diyanet may use slightly different coordinates for a town. Switch the method or the Asr school below if your mosque follows another timetable.

Devrek, the Sun and the clock

Devrek is in Zonguldak Province and has about 25,000 people. The nearest larger city is Zonguldak, 29 km to the north-northwest. Devrek lies 13° west of the 45° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 52 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 12:52, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Devrek: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 72° above the horizon in June and only 25° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Devrek range from 9h 12m in December to 15h 9m in June, a difference of 5h 57m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
