Salah times Ahlat: calculation method and Asr

Method: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı method (Turkey). Asr: Standard.

Times follow Diyanet's official method: İmsak (Fajr) at 18°, Yatsı (Isha) at 17°, plus temkin, the fixed precaution minutes Diyanet adds (sunrise −7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7). In Turkey İmsak is when the fast begins and equals Fajr here. For the places we checked, our minutes match Diyanet's published tables or differ by one minute at most, because Diyanet may use slightly different coordinates for a town. Switch the method or the Asr school below if your mosque follows another timetable.

Jummah time Ahlat

Friday prayer (Jummah) replaces Dhuhr on Fridays. The calculated Dhuhr start in Ahlat this Friday is 11:59; the khutbah and congregation times are set by each masjid, so check with your local mosque.

Ahlat does not change its clocks; times stay on Europe/Istanbul all year. How times are calculated

Ahlat, the Sun and the clock

Ahlat is in Bitlis and has about 65,000 people. Ahlat lies 2.5° west of the 45° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 10 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 12:10, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Ahlat: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 75° above the horizon in June and only 28° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Ahlat range from 9h 27m in December to 14h 53m in June, a difference of 5h 26m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them. At 1,708 m above sea level, Ahlat sits on high ground. Times are calculated for a level horizon; from a hilltop or a tall building sunrise can come a little earlier and sunset a little later than listed, while mountains to the east or west do the opposite.

Maghrib time Ahlat compared with nearby cities

Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Ahlat, calculated with the same method.
