George does not change its clocks; times stay on Africa/Johannesburg all year. How times are calculated

George, the Sun and the clock

George is in Western Cape and has about 190,000 people. George lies 7.5° west of the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 30 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 12:30, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in George: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 79° above the horizon in December and only 33° in June, so noon shadows are much longer in June. Days in George range from 9h 53m in June to 14h 25m in December, a difference of 4h 32m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them. As George is in the southern hemisphere, its longest days come in December and January, and so do its longest fasts whenever Ramadan falls then.

Maghrib time George compared with nearby cities
