Marrakesh does not change its clocks; times stay on Africa/Casablanca all year. How times are calculated
Marrakesh is the main city of Marrakesh-Safi, home to about 1,000,000 people. Marrakesh lies 23° west of the 15° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 92 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 13:32, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.
The Sun never stands straight overhead in Marrakesh: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 82° above the horizon in June and only 35° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Marrakesh range from 10h 5m in December to 14h 13m in June, a difference of 4h 8m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Marrakesh, calculated with the same method.

Get Awqatly for Windows (free)The Kutubiyya Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakesh, is a work of the Almohad dynasty of the 12th century. Caliph Abd al-Mu'min founded it in 1147, after he conquered Marrakesh from the Almoravids, and the second, present mosque was rebuilt around 1158. The popular account holds that the first mosque was not aligned with the qibla, so a second was built beside it at a slightly different orientation, though historians still debate the reasons. Its minaret is 77 metres tall and probably inspired the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat, built soon afterwards.
The name comes from the Arabic word kutubiyyin, 'booksellers', because of the book trade in the nearby souk. Traditionally the muezzin gave the call to prayer from the four cardinal directions from the platform at the top of the minaret. The mosque is still in use, and non-Muslims are not allowed inside. It belongs to a country that has been predominantly Maliki since the Almoravid era: the Almoravid dynasty (1040 to 1147) made the Maliki school prominent, and the Almohads (1121 to 1269) then persecuted the smaller sects, so that orthodox Sunni Islam prevailed.
For prayer times, Marrakesh lies at 31.6 degrees north. The Ministry of Habous publishes the official timetable for each city, and this site follows the same method as described by secondary sources, which we have not yet compared with the ministry's tables, so the ministry's timetable remains the official reference. On this site's calculation the fast from Fajr to Maghrib in Marrakesh lasts about 16 hours on 21 June and 11 and a half hours on 21 December. During Ramadan Morocco sets its clocks back an hour, from UTC+1 to UTC+0, and the times here use the clock in force on each day. Congregation times are set by each mosque.
