Alor Setar does not change its clocks; times stay on Asia/Kuala_Lumpur all year. How times are calculated

Alor Setar, the Sun and the clock

Alor Setar is the main city of Kedah, home to about 420,000 people. Alor Setar lies 19.6° west of the 120° E meridian that its time zone is based on. The Sun therefore reaches its highest point about 79 minutes after 12:00 on average, around 13:19, and Dhuhr comes later than the clock suggests.

Alor Setar lies within the tropics. Around 6 April and 8 September the Sun passes straight overhead at Dhuhr, and upright objects cast almost no shadow at noon. Day length hardly changes in Alor Setar, from 11h 46m to 12h 29m through the year, so prayer times move only a little from season to season.
