Clocks change on 24 April and 29 October. Prayer times on those days shift by an hour on the clock, not in the sky. How times are calculated

Darāw, the Sun and the clock

Darāw is in Aswan and has about 62,000 people. The nearest larger city is Kom Ombo, 8 km to the north-northeast. Darāw lies 2.9° east of the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest about 12 minutes before 12:00 on average, around 11:48, and Dhuhr comes earlier than the clock suggests. In summer, when the clocks go forward an hour, that moment moves to around 12:48.

The Sun never stands straight overhead in Darāw: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 89° above the horizon in June and only 42° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Darāw range from 10h 37m in December to 13h 39m in June, a difference of 3h 2m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.

Maghrib time Darāw compared with nearby cities

Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Darāw, calculated with the same method.
