Across 2026, Fajr in Alexandria moves between 03:50 and 05:45, and Maghrib between 16:57 and 20:08. The longest fasting day, dawn to sunset, is 16h 00m on 21 June; the shortest is 11h 41m on 17 December.
Clocks change on 24 April and 29 October. Prayer times on those days shift by an hour on the clock, not in the sky. How times are calculated
Alexandria is the main city of Alexandria, home to about 5,300,000 people. Alexandria lies almost on the 30° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest close to 12:00 on the clock, around 12:00 on average. Dhuhr begins just after that moment. In summer, when the clocks go forward an hour, that moment moves to around 13:00.
The Sun never stands straight overhead in Alexandria: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 82° above the horizon in June and only 35° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Alexandria range from 10h 7m in December to 14h 11m in June, a difference of 4h 4m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Alexandria, calculated with the same method.

Get Awqatly for Windows (free)The Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque, in the Anfoushi neighbourhood of Alexandria, honours a 13th-century mystic and is the best known mosque of the city. Abu'l Abbas al-Mursi and three of his disciples are buried toward the end of the mosque, together with members of the Ashraf family. The present building dates from about 1943 to 1945, and the Italian architect Mario Rossi took part in planning its design and decor, with construction taking sixteen or eighteen years. Its style is neo-Mamluk, inspired by the late Mamluk architecture, with a large dome followed by four smaller domes, and a minaret approximately 73 metres high.
The shrine shows the place of Sufism in Egyptian religious life. Egypt has 74 Sufi orders, about 15 million registered Sufis, and moulids, the festivals of saints, that draw very large crowds: the one in Tanta, in the Nile Delta, brings up to 3 million people each October. Alexandria is also the second-largest city in the country, with about 5.3 million people, in a country whose population is about 90% Muslim.
For prayer times, Alexandria lies at 31.2 degrees north and Egypt brought back daylight saving time in 2023. On this site's calculation the fast from Fajr to Maghrib in Alexandria lasts about 16 hours on 21 June and 11 and a half hours on 21 December. Alexandria is in the west of the country, so sunrise and sunset come about 12 minutes later by the clock than in Aswan. Times here follow the Egyptian General Authority of Survey angles, and Ramadan and Eid begin on the day announced by Dar al-Ifta. Congregation times are set by each mosque.
