Sylhet does not change its clocks; times stay on Asia/Dhaka all year. How times are calculated
Sylhet is the main city of Sylhet Division, home to about 240,000 people. Sylhet lies 1.9° east of the 90° E meridian that its time zone is based on, so the Sun is highest about 7 minutes before 12:00 on average, around 11:53, and Dhuhr comes earlier than the clock suggests.
The Sun never stands straight overhead in Sylhet: at Dhuhr it climbs to about 89° above the horizon in June and only 42° in December, so noon shadows are much longer in December. Days in Sylhet range from 10h 35m in December to 13h 41m in June, a difference of 3h 6m, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha shift with them.
Prayer times shift with longitude: about 4 minutes for every degree east or west. Here is how today's Fajr and Maghrib in nearby places compare with Sylhet, calculated with the same method.

Get Awqatly for Windows (free)In the 2022 census Sylhet City Corporation had 532,839 people in its urban area and 896,331 in the metropolitan area, up from 485,138 in 2011 for the urban area. The census table gives Muslims as 86.52% and Hindus as 13.30%; another section of the same article gives 90.52% and 9.30% without a year, so the sources conflict, and the census table is the figure used here. Most Muslims are Sunni and follow the Hanafi school, and many follow Sufi teachings, notably those of Abdul Latif Fultali. Sylhet has the highest proportion of Hindus of any part of Bangladesh. Its most distinctive link is with the British Bangladeshi community: the Sylheti diaspora is put at around one million, and a 2008 study found that 95% lived in the UK. The city receives a large share of the country's remittances, and its international airport exists because of demand from expatriates in the UK and the US.
The Shah Jalal Dargah stands on a low hill called Dargah Tila in north Sylhet and is described as the most visited shrine in Bangladesh. Shah Jalal lived from 1271 to 1347, and tradition credits him with spreading Islam in the region, while the article on Sylhet attributes the 1303 conquest of the town to Sultan Shamsuddin Firoz Shah. A mosque was built there in 1472 under Sultan Shamsuddin Yusuf Shah, an inscription dates the original shrine to 1505, and the Bara Gumbad mosque and the present shrine date from 1677 and 1678. The three-domed main mosque was commissioned by Bahram Khan in 1744 and was damaged by the 1897 earthquake. Four mosques stand in the compound, and the annual urs on 15 March draws thousands of people, mainly from Bangladesh and India.
For prayer times, Sylhet lies at about 24.9 degrees north and uses Bangladesh Standard Time, UTC+6.
